1. Ensure the RamanFlex 400 is switched on; if not, follow SOP-1.
2. In the Scan and Instrument Setup dialog, click Spectral Preview and then focus on
the appropriate NIST standard.
When the NIST standard is optimally focused, close the dialog by clicking Exit.
NOTE: If you have a RamanFlex 400F with two fiber optic probes, ensure that the probe not
in use is covered.
3. Select Validate and then Instrument from the Instrument menu in Spectrum.
The Validation / Calibration dialog is displayed.
4. Select the Calibration tab.
5. Select Intensity Calibration Y-axis, and then click OK.
The instrument will now perform the intensity calibration routine.
After completing the intensity calibration routine, a report is generated
on-screen, which gives details on the outcome of the intensity calibration.
In the unlikely event that the intensity calibration routine should fail, please ensure the
NIST sample is correctly positioned, and that the laser key switch is set to on (ARM). If
this is the case shut down the PC, switch the instrument off, restart the PC and switch
the instrument back on and repeat the calibration.
6. Remove the intensity correction standard and store safely.
7. Ensure that the probe is covered.
Any data acquired will now be intensity corrected.
Summary
• The only calibration procedure that needs to be performed on a regular basis is the
wavelength calibration verification procedure.

The wavelength and laser frequency calibrations should only be performed if the
instrument fails the wavelength calibration verification procedure.
• The intensity calibration should only be performed on a yearly basis or if the
environment (temperature and / or humidity) changes significantly, or if the instrument
is moved, or following a service repair.
