Description.html
4.8.3 Metallographic CLASS Procedures
– Examples
4.8.3.1 CLASS 1: Soft Ductile Materials (Example: Aluminum)
Sectioning:
MAXCUT Abrasive Blade (Cat. No. MAX-C or MAX-I series)
Mounting:
Compression Mounting with Phenolic, Epoxy, or Diallyl Phthalate compression
mounting resins.
Polishing:
The difficulty in preparing CLASS
1 materials arises from the fact
that these materials contain
oxide inclusions in their
microstructures. Proper
specimen preparation retains
these oxides, eliminating
scratching and smearing caused
by these particles. If the
specimen is not prepared
properly the microstructure will
not be accurately represented.
