General Description
The
CAPELLA Cochlear Emissions Analyzer
is an audio diagnostic in-
strument designed to measure two broad classes of otoacoustic
emissions, Spontaneous and Evoked.
Capella
consists of the follow-
ing:
1.
The hardware platform, which houses the power supply and
printed circuit boards for signal generation.
2.
The probe assembly, which contains the preamplifier.
3.
The probe body, which contains a microphone and two receiv-
ers.
4.
A headset and earphone or a shoulder harness and a set of
color-coded eartips to stabilize the probe and probe assembly
when the probe tip is placed in the external ear canal.
5.
Operating software, which delivers signal generation and
other instructions to the hardware platform and collects data
from the hardware platform. Includes a comprehensive on-
line Help to assist the user.
6.
Various cords and cable connections, including an RS232C
computer interface.
7.
This User Manual, which provides general information about
the theory and technique involved in the measurement of
otoacoustic emissions, as well as specific instruction in the use
of
Capella
.
8.
A laminated Quick Guide.
Some test parameters are pre-programmed and stored in non-vola-
tile memory on the printed circuit boards of the main electronics
unit. These parameters are retained when the power supply is cut
off, but can be reprogrammed or upgraded from a personal compu-
ter by authorized personnel as necessary. Other test parameters are
selected from the computer using the keyboard or various function
keys.
The hardware platform has three LED displays indicating power on,
battery status, and signal and response transmission (PC Com).
