c. Air Flow Principle
The vertical clean air workstation is a turbulence-free (laminar) vertical displacement flow of clean air in the work
chamber protecting the product against particle contamination and the operator from airborne particle.
Filters: The MARS workstation main filters are high-efficiency HEPA
filter class (H14). The filter system consists of two HEPA filters (D) and
(E).
Air velocity monitoring: The turbulence-free vertical flow can be
monitored by means of air velocity sensors. Any deviation from safe
conditions will be indicated by a visually and an acoustic alarm.
Filter System: The room air is drawn into the sample chamber work
opening through the perforated wholes in the table top (A). The air is
drawn through the air plenum under the work surface through the floor
pan and behind the rear interior wall (B). The room air and the down
flow air from within the chamber (G) move to the motor plenum (C).
From the motor plenum:
- Some air is drawn into the down flow fan and pushed through the
down flow HEPA filter (E) and the laminator air panel (F) as essentially
particle free air.
- Some air is drawn into the exhaust fan and pushed through the
exhaust HEPA filter (D), returning to the room as essentially particle
free air.
Note: If the MARS is mounted with the VOC Filter box (H), at first, the
air circulation is drawn through the exhaust HEPA filter and than
through the VOC filter box (H) located on top of the workstation,
returning to the room as essentially particle and VOC free air.
