To take advantage of this live
preview feature in some shooting
modes, you must disable another
option, Live View Boost. See the
“Exploring setup options on the
Custom menu” section later in
this chapter for details.
6. To adjust another picture-taking
option, press the up- or down-
arrow key to highlight its icon
on the right side of the screen.
Then use the left- and right- arrow
keys to select an option for that
setting. And so on. And so on.
7. To exit the Live Control screen
and return to shooting, press the shutter button halfway.
Using the Super Control Panel (SCP)
The Live Control screen enables you to concentrate on a single setting at a
time. (Experimenting with just one setting on each photography outing is
a great way to learn, by the way.) But as you advance in your photography
knowledge, you’ll figure out how to combine multiple settings to craft the pic-
ture that you have in mind. For example, you might use a particular exposure
setting with a specific focusing setting to capture a waterfall and then dial in
a totally different combination to photograph a child playing with a puppy.
When you’re ready to consider all the critical photography settings as a unit,
you may prefer to abandon the Live Control screen in favor of the Super
Control Panel. Or you can enable both displays and then switch between
them as needed.
Before you can use the Super Control Panel (abbreviated SCP in the camera
screens and in some parts of the manual), you must enable it through
Custom Menu D. Skim backward through this chapter, to the section “Setting
your control screen preferences” to find out how.
After enabling the display, press OK to bring it to life. If one of the other con-
trol displays appears, press Info until you see the Super Control Panel, which
looks like the screen shown on the left in Figure 1-31.
