1. OVERVIEW

1.1 Introduction

This manual provides information pertaining to the installation, operation, testing, adjustment and maintenance of the
nVent RAYCHEM Elexant 4010i/4020i Heat Tracing Controllers.

Additional copies of this user manual may be ordered separately through your nVent representative or online at

Product Overview

This section contains an overview of the Elexant 4010i/4020i Heat Trace Controller. It introduces the

product variants and main features of the product line, which will be explored in further detail later in this

manual.
The two major variants of the Elexant 4000 series controllers are the 4010i and the 4020i. The 4010i
models are designed for single circuit operation, and installed individually in an enclosure with an

integrated Electro-mechanical Relay (EMR) or Solid-State Relay (SSR). The 4020i models are DIN rail
mounted and designed for multi circuit operation (multiple controllers in the same enclosure) connected

to external EMR or SSR as the application requires.

1.1.1.1 Description

The Elexant 4010i/4020i series electronic heat tracing controllers control, monitor,
and communicate alarms and data for one

heating circuit. The unit supports the option of direct field

installation in Class 1, Division 2 and Zone 2 areas. It is available with a solid-state relay (SSR) output for
use in hazardous areas or with electromechanical relay (EMR) output for use in ordinary (non-hazardous)

areas.
