2.11.3 Battery Installation-Continued
When installing the battery, first review all of the
battery warnings in Section 2.11.1.
ALWAYS
connect the positive battery cable first and the
negative battery cable last. The positive battery
cable should be connected to the RED,
POSITIVE, or “+” battery terminal. The negative
battery cable should be connected to the BLACK,
NEGATIVE, or “-” battery terminal.

The battery charger has two leads, one red and
the other black. These two leads should be
connected to their respective locations on the
battery. The positive battery charger cable is
colored RED and is labeled “+”. There is also an
inline fuse and fuse holder associated with the
RED battery charger lead. The negative battery
charger cable is colored BLACK and should be
connected to the BLACK, NEGATIVE, or “-”
battery terminal. See Figure 01206.
WARNING
•
Disconnect power source
from the battery charger prior to connecting or
disconnecting electrical cables from the
battery terminals.
Failure to disconnect the incoming power from the
battery charger may cause a spark during
connection of either the battery cables or battery
charger cables. Sparks can ignite hydrogen or
other gases. Hydrogen is a gas vented from
batteries during charging.
