Data Field
The data field is also part of a CAN telegram. It can be 0 to 64 bits long. It contains reference data and is transmitted
next to the control field.
The reference data contains additional information for executing the command, such as the dispensing valve
number, the starting line to be called up, faults in the PICO controller, etc. The data field can hold up to eight
difference pieces of reference data.
The reference data is sent to the CAN master in a form suited to the unit. From there it is stored in the CAN telegram
data field as data bytes (an 8-digit binary number).
The respective procedure for entering the reference data in the CAN master can be found in the manual for the
master used.
Commands for CAN Communication
If a master sends a slave a command (request), the slave checks its own status and reacts as follows:
• If the request is free of errors, the slave immediately begins to process the command and sends a response to
the master.
• If the slave detects an error, the command is not processed and the slave sends a response, with the respective
error message, to the master. The slave cannot process the command until the error is corrected and a new
command is issued.
