This chapter explains how to connect your printer to a computer
through either the parallel port or serial port.

Note:
If you’re connecting to a computer through an Ethernet
network, refer to chapter 4, “Connecting to an Ethernet Network.”

Turn off both the printer and the PC.

Connect the printer to the PC.
If you’re connecting to a PC through a parallel interface, con-
nect the printer to the PC as described in “Making a Parallel
Connection” on page 3-2.
If you’re connecting to the PC through a serial interface, con-
nect the printer to the PC as described in “Making a Serial
Connection” on page 3-4.

Note:
If the printer is more than 6.5 feet (2 meters) from the PC,
we recommend using an Ethernet or serial connection for better
communication.

Turn on both the printer and the PC.

Install a printer driver.
