PH module (required for phase contrast microscopy)
PH module includes [D-C PH-1], [D-C PH-2], and [D-C PH-3].
Select the PH module with the same PH code as the one indicated on the PH objective.
Dark-field module (required for dark-field microscopy)
The dark-field module [D-C DF] can be used with any objective with NA (numerical aperture) of 0.7 or less. Note,
however, that 2x and 4x objectives are not supported.
2-4x auxiliary lens (required for low magnification bright-field microscopy)
2x and 4x objectives for universal condenser can only be used for bright-field microscopy. In this case, select a 2-4x
auxiliary lens.
Two types of 2-4x auxiliary lens, [NI-CAL N1] and [D-C 2-4x] are available with different diameter and different
condenser turret attachment address.
■
Switching the optical module (switching the turret)
Rotate the condenser turret manually to switch. It can be
turned either clockwise or counterclockwise. The attached
optical module is indicated on the turret side and the optical
module indicated at the front of the turret is in the optical
path.
Make sure the turret is stopped at a click-stop position when
rotating.

Aperture
diaphragm
A condenser is equipped with an aperture diaphragm to adjust the illumination angular aperture.
Turning the aperture diaphragm lever changes the size of the aperture diaphragm. Turn the diaphragm clockwise to
open and counterclockwise to close.
A scale indicating the numerical aperture of the aperture diaphragm of the condenser is displayed at the top of the
aperture diaphragm lever. Match the indicator of the aperture diaphragm lever to the scale. (See “8 Adjusting the
Aperture Diaphragm”.)
Aperture diaphragm at phase contrast microscopy
When using the NI-CUD for phase contrast microscopy, fully open the aperture diaphragm. Stopping down the aperture
diaphragm may block the PH module's annular diaphragm, disabling phase contrast microscopy.
■
Condenser focus knob (equipped on the condenser holder)
A manual condenser focus knob is attached on the left and right sides of the condenser holder.
They are used to adjust the condenser position so that the light passing through the condenser forms an image at the
correct position (center of the optical path) on the surface of the sample. (See “7 Focusing and Centering the
Condenser”.)
■
Condenser centering screws (equipped on the condenser holder)
The condenser holder is equipped with condenser centering screws (x2). They are used to adjust the condenser
position so that the light passing through the condenser forms an image at the correct position (center of the optical
path) on the surface of the sample. (See “7 Focusing and Centering the Condenser”.)
■
PH module centering screws
There are PH module centering screws at the rear of the condenser (x2). The screws are equipped with a knob. To
adjust the centering screw, pull the knob out and set it horizontally and then push it into the screw. Keep the knob
pulled down when not used. (See Chapter 2, “6 Phase Contrast Microscopy Procedure
