Controls described in the Capture NX section—this new
facility obviously is something Nikon is promulgating across
all of its digital products (I’m surprised they didn’t call it
EXPEED Picture Controls).
Obviously, we’ve got a lot to deal with. Let’s start with some
definitions:

Sharpening
—Sharpening refers to edge contrast
techniques that are used to remove the visual impact of
the anti-aliasing implicit in digital images (see
“Sharpening” on page <413>). We use the
Sharpening
tool to add visual definition to edges in our images.
Picture Controls allow you to set this to
A
(automatic), and
levels from
0
(no sharpening) to
9
(a lot of sharpening).
This is more control than was available with previous
Nikon designs.
