Note that if you’re using the MB-D10 grip with the proper
batteries, the maximum frame rate drops to 7.5 fps if
ISO
sensitivity auto control
is set to
On
. Frame rates don’t
change if you’re using EN-EL3e batteries (because they don’t
reach that high).
One nice touch is that you can set the maximum ISO value
(between
400
and
HI 1
[sic]) for the camera to use when
ISO
sensitivity auto control
is set to
On
. Moreover, the camera
sets the actual ISO value it picks in sixth stop increments
when this feature is active. Another nice touch is that D300
shows the ISO value being used in the viewfinder (and the
ISO-AUTO
indicator blinks). The Top LCD only shows the
ISO-AUTO
indicator:

Note: If you use flash, the automatic ISO function turns off and
your previously set ISO is used! The
ISO-AUTO
in the
viewfinder stays lit (does not blink). This is Nikon’s subtle
reminder that “more light” is better than “higher ISO.”
