3. Connecting and Installing Component Selection Indicator LEDs
To indicate activation for components (like Speakers) that do not have operating lights, (or in a home audio
system where all components are constantly on), all MTi Switching Modules provide the capability to turn
on LEDs mounted near each component. To activate LEDs, the positive leads of all the LEDs are connected
to the
“LED+”
terminal, and each negative lead is connected to the lettered terminal corresponding to the
component’s Switching Module Position (A–H).
Never c12 volts from any source directly to the “LED+” (or “12V DC”) terminal.
If you are using MTi-supplied LEDs and bezels, you will need to drill holes in your panels that are 9/32" in
diameter. Then install the plastic LED sleeve from the front, secure it, and push the LED through the hole
from the back until it snaps in place. When attaching leads to the back be careful not to bend the LED wires.
MTi manufactures an LED Stand which can rest on a shelf next to a component, or on top of a component,
in a home audio or video display. These are available blank or labeled with the names of many different
component types (Receiver, Speaker, etc.) Call our MTi Sales Department for more information.
4. Component Labeling
MTi can supply you with
Factags
, which are transparent plastic strips that hold printed or hand-lettered
information tags for each component. These attach to shelf or display panel with double-sided tape. They
are available in 1"x6", 2"x6", 3/4"x6", and 2"x3" sizes.
In addition, we carry sheets of black or white numbered labels (1–72) for labeling components with their
Selection Numbers. Contact our MTi Sales or Customer Service department for ordering information.
NOTE:
See the MTi Price Schedule for additional accessories.
5. Connecting Components to the System
Once all the elements of your Switching System are installed, you are ready to start connecting audio/video
components and testing the System. By following the systematic approach outlined below, you will
eliminate unnecessary steps and will be able to locate any mistakes
before
they can cause you headaches!
Because of the great variety of audio/video components, we recommend that you refer to the Owner’s
Manual that comes with each component for detailed instructions on connecting inputs, outputs and
power.
5.a Common Ground/Floating Ground
We recommend that all high-level wiring be hooked up for floating ground (L+, L-, R+, R-).
Then, any components that have common ground requirements can have the ground positions
jumpered at the point where they join to the component wiring (i.e., at the snap terminals).
This offers you complete flexibility for changing components in your System.
