Appendix C - Troubleshooting
This section contains information which should help you track down, and in many cases solve, any problems
you might encounter either during installation, or later during operation of your Matrix System. But, please
remember that our
Customer Service Department, at 1-800-426-6844
, is standing by to help you at any
point in your problem solving endeavor. If you are a technical whiz and feel you can take care of the
problem yourself, this section has the guidelines that can make the job easier. If you’d rather have an expert
voice at the end of the line helping you through step-by-step, that’s what we’re here for.
Successful troubleshooting begins with the right attitude. A completed Matrix System installation with
components connected contains a lot of wiring. To pinpoint and correct a problem in all of those wires can
seem a bit overwhelming. But fear not. You can do it by approaching the situation logically. The key is to
systematically
isolate
the problem.
The vast majority of problems reported to our Customer Service personnel are traced to incorrect or faulty
connections. Whenever you are experiencing difficulties, always check the “obvious” things first. For
example, make sure that the problem component is in fact plugged in and turned on, and connected to the
Switching System! (You’d be surprised at how many calls we get in which this is the problem.) Could you
possibly have overlooked a Control Cable or a Switching Module interconnection when hooking up your
Chains? Did you correctly set the DIP switches on the Switching Modules? Only after you have resolved that
all is well in these areas, should you begin to inquire further.
1. If the MVP Control Panel seems to be malfunctioning – your first step is to try and isolate
which part of the System is not working. First unplug the MVP Control Panel from the AC
outlet, reconnect it and enter your lockout code, then push the “lockout” button. If it still
seems to be malfunctioning, then unplug it again and disconnect the MVP Control Panel
from the Switching Modules by disconnecting the Control Cables that run from the first
Switching Module of each Chain to its Dual Chain Module. Reconnect the power and enter
your lockout code, then push the “lockout” button. Now make some “dry” component
selections. Does the MVP Control Panel display respond properly to the selections (do you
see the correct numbers in the display, and do they transfer to the Dual Chain Modules)? If
the problem doesn’t show up, then you know it isn’t in the MVP Control Panel. Proceed to
check your Switching Modules.
2. If the problem continues, then the MVP Control Panel is the source of the problem. Unplug
it again, disconnect the Control Cable and the Power Cable that run from the first Dual
Chain Module to the MVP Control Module. Reconnect the power and enter your lockout
code, then push the “lockout” button. If the MVP Control Module works properly, then the
problem is likely to be with one of the Dual Chain or Feature Modules. Reconnect the cables
from the first Dual Chain Module, and disconnect the cables to the next Dual Chain
Module. Continue this process, adding one more DCM at a time, until your problem recurs,
and you will know which Dual Chain Module is causing the problem.
