TAPPET CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT
When the timing system is noisy, check clearances between valves and rocker arms.
Adjust clearance when the engine is cold, with the piston at top dead centre (TDC) during the compression
Remove the head cover (1) and proceed as follows:
•
loosen the nut (1);
turn the adjuster screw (2) with a screwdriver until setting the following clearances:
intake valve 0.10 mm (0.0039 in.)
exhaust valve 0.15 mm (0.0059 in.)
Measure clearances using a suitable feeler gauge (3).
If clearance is greater than specified, the tappets will be noisy; a clearance smaller than specified will
prevent the valves from closing fully leading to:
-
pressure leak;
-
engine overheating;
-
burnished valves, etc.
