Operating modes

The ASi master can operate in two modes - 
Protected mode and Configuration mode. Both 
modes are called normal operation.

With the PLC in RUN mode, the ASi master normally 
operates in protected mode. User data exchange 
between ASi master and the slaves requires protected 
mode. However, data exchange only takes place with 
slaves which are specified in the permanent 
configuration and whose I/O and ID codes match the 
profile stored in the permanent configuration.

The ASi master monitors the actual configuration to 
ensure reliable operation of the system.

The ASi master is automatically switched to 
configuration mode if the user selects the actual ASi 
configuration in the Topology Configurator of the 
Test & Commissioning tool with the PLC in HALT 
mode. In this mode, additional ASi devices can be 
added to an existing configuration and the slave 
address can be changed during system 
commissioning. This mode also allows a wiring test 
to be carried out for all slaves (Display/force I/O’s).

The functions “Actual ASi configuration” and 
“Display/force I/O’s” are available in the 
Components menu of the online topology 
configurator of the Test & Commissioning Tool.

System start-up

It is first necessary to transfer the permanent 
configuration to the PLC together with the user 
program.

When the PLC is started, the ASi master detects the 
slaves present on that ASi line. The slaves are then 
activated as follows depending on the current 
operating mode of the ASi master: In protected 
mode, only those slaves are activated that are 
specified in the permanent configuration. In
