3.2.7. Installing the Vision Sensor Unit
CAUTION: At this stage, the VSU should NOT YET be attached to the
vehicle’s windshield. Attaching the VSU to the windshield will be done after
feeding the AWS-4000 with power. The VSU should be left on the
dashboard at this stage.
Before starting VSU installation, make sure that the car is not loaded
with unusual heavy cargo that can tilt the orientation of the car body.
Select the optimal location for the Vision sensor unit. Please comply
with the following requirements as incorrect positioning may affect the
overall performance of the AWS.
a. Selecting the optimal location for the Vision Sensor Unit:
•
The vision sensor unit should preferably be placed at the top of
the windshield (preferably at a height over 1.2 meter), in an area
well covered by the windshield wipers.
•
The vision sensor unit should be placed at approximately the
center of the vehicle widthwise. If this is not possible it should be
within the central third of the vehicle width. It should be noted
that some car models have a convex windshield (sideways), which
intensifies the problem of an off-center installation.
•
There should be no occlusions such as stickers or darkened
windshield areas in front of the vision sensor.
•
In tall commercial vehicles that do not have an engine hood
occluding the field of view of the camera, the vision sensor unit
can be placed on the lower part of the windshield, while
considering all of the above-mentioned requirements. In this
case, you need a windshield mount and VSU with a "DOWN"
cable. A “DOWN” cable means that after VSU installation, the VSU
cable exits the mount downwards, instead of upwards (which is
the case in the “UP” VSU cable, used when installing the VSU on
the upper part of the windshield).
b. Make sure the vehicle is standing on a flat surface with no side or
forward slope.
