Charging the vehicle
Vehicle features and options
This chapter describes all standard, country-
specific and optional features offered with
the series. It also describes features and
functions that are not necessarily available
in your vehicle, e.g., due to the selected op-
tions or country versions. This also applies
to safety-related functions and systems.
When using these functions and systems,
the applicable laws and regulations must be
observed.
Principle
The vehicle can be charged using various
charging cables at charging stations or do-
mestic socket outlets. Control and monitor-
ing of the charging process are handled
fully automatically. The charge current
strength can be set via the Central Informa-
tion Display (CID).
General information
Charging from the power grid
The high-voltage battery is used as an en-
ergy accumulator. The high-voltage battery
can be charged utilizing energy recovery
during the trip or via the power grid.
In order to operate the high-voltage battery
optimally, charge the vehicle regularly us-
ing a compatible charger.
When charging via the power grid, you can
chose between the following variants:
–
Domestic socket outlet.
–
AC charging station.
For optimal use of the energy from the
power grid, charging at a charging station,
e.g., at a MINI
Wallbox, is recommended.
Ensure that the charging station is installed
according to the technical requirements of
the power grid, e.g. by a qualified electri-
cian.
Charge current
General information
The charge current strength is indicated in
amperes.
The vehicle cannot automatically detect the
maximum permissible charge current
strength of the power grid during charging
via a domestic socket outlet.
Charging on a domestic socket outlet
The permitted charge current strength must
be determined, for instance by a qualified
electrician, before first charging with your
own domestic socket outlet or when charg-
ing with third-party domestic socket out-
lets.
The charge current strength for charging at
a domestic socket outlet, refer to page
can be adjusted in the vehicle at three lev-
els.
At delivery, the charge current for charging
at a domestic socket outlet is set to the low-
est level.
Depending on the country-specific version,
one of several ampere ratings is printed on
the Mode
2
charging cable. This ampere
rating is the limit which must be adhered to
for the vehicle if the charge current is set to
the highest level. Depending on the charg-
ing cable, the charge current strength may
vary when lower levels are set.
