Vehicle features and options
This chapter describes all standard, country-
specific and optional features offered with
the series. It also describes features and
functions that are not necessarily available
in your vehicle, e.g., due to the selected op-
tions or country versions. This also applies
to safety-related functions and systems.
When using these functions and systems,
the applicable laws and regulations must be
observed.
Hybrid system
Principle
This MINI is a hybrid vehicle. In addition to
the combustion engine, the vehicle features
a high-voltage system that consists of an
electric motor and a high-voltage battery
among other things.
The hybrid system can move the vehicle en-
tirely on battery power. It can also support
the combustion engine in certain situations.
General information
The vehicle does not consume any fuel
while driving purely electrically. This ena-
bles environmentally friendly driving with-
out emissions in certain conditions, for ex-
ample, in city traffic. If the combustion
engine is used, the hybrid system support
reduces fuel consumption even further.
In addition to this, the electric motor acts as
an alternator: during braking and in coast-
ing/overrun mode, the electric motor con-
verts the vehicle's kinetic energy into elec-
trical energy. The electrical energy is stored
in the high-voltage battery and is used to
drive the electric motor.
The vehicle can be charged, refer to
page 258 , via the charging socket at charg-
ing stations or domestic socket outlets.

page 114 , are met, the vehicle is powered
only by the electric motor.
Variable drive type
The combustion engine drives the front axle
and the electric motor the rear axle. De-
pending on the operating condition, the ve-
hicle has the options of front-wheel drive,
