About the MS-850 Scanner
The MS-850 is a compact, fixed-mount, industrial, raster scanner with a wide variety
of user controls and intelligence including diagnostics, adjustable raster angles and
speeds (up to 30 sweeps per second), adjustable spinning mirror speeds (from 350
to 1100 scans per second), and three programmable outputs. It is contained in a
die-cast aluminum housing designed to meet IP65 standards.
Its application code resides in an onboard flash memory chip that can be easily
updated by downloads, as can its user interface program, the ESP™ (Easy Setup
Program) running on Microsoft Windows 95™ operating systems.
About This Manual
This manual provides complete information on setting up and installing the MS-850
scanner.
Chapter 1 provides overall step-by-step instructions for quick-starting your MS-850
scanner with specific “go to” references to other chapters and appendices.
Chapter 2 provides instructions for configuring the MS-850 scanner by ESP menus.
Chapter 3 provides instructions for configuring the MS-850 scanner by serial com-
mands.
Chapter 4 describes ESP Utility commands and their related serial commands.

. The appendices
also include reference tables as well as other useful information relating to bar cod-
ing and the MS-850 scanner.
