10.2 Installing the maxium Beamer
10.2.1 Power
Supply
A special interface (28) is provided for the maxium Beamer. It is used for communication between
the maxium and the maxium Beamer as well as for powering the maxium Beamer through the
maxium HF unit.
10.2.2 Gas
Supply
The
maxium Beamer must be operated with the noble gas argon. This gas is
commonly available in gas cylinders of various sizes, with a nominal filling pres-
sure of 200 bar. For installation on the equipment trolley, Martin recommends us-
ing 5-liter exchangeable cylinders with “quality 4.8” argon (purity greater than
99,998%). If expanded to atmospheric pressure, the cylinder content is equiva-
lent to 1,000 liters of argon, which allows you to work for 3 to 6 hours (depending
on selected flow rate). The cylinder must be connected to the gas inlet located on
the unit’s rear panel.
A pressure reducer is used to reduce the high internal
pressure of the cylinder to approx. 2.5 to 4.0 bar when
connecting the cylinder to the maxium Beamer. Before
connecting the pressure reducer to the cylinder, ensure
that the cylinder is safely installed, thereby observing
all working and safety guidelines and regulations relat-
ing to pressure vessels. The maxium Cart available for
maxium Beamer installation offers ample space for two
cylinders, which must be secured on the Cart with the
straps provided. Once the cylinder(s) have been safely
installed, remove the protected cap from the angle
valve and screw on the pressure reducer. Tighten the
knurled screw by hand but do not use excessive force.
Do not tighten with force! Do not use tools!
After the above steps have been duly carried out, open
the cylinder’s angle valve (by at least half a rotation
counterclockwise). The pressure indicated on the pres-
sure reducer’s manometer provides continuous infor-
mation on the cylinder’s filling level.
When connecting the maxium Beamer to a central gas
supply system, be sure to observe the required input
pressure range of 2.5 to 4.5 bar.
