Macro Coag
This current is equivalent to a standard forceps current used in open surgery and laparoscopy. The
“Macro Coag” current has been designed for use with relatively large-surface forceps such as the
Hirsch forceps, Maryland dissector or Kleppinger electrode. Since the voltage is specifically
adapted to the instruments usually used, both tissue carbonization and the adhesion of coagulated
tissue to the tongs of the forceps are more or less prevented. The degree of coagulation is primar-
ily controlled through footswitch activation time. Again, the rule of thumb is as follows:
Low penetration depth – short application period at a correspondingly high power output
High penetration depth – long application period at a correspondingly low power output
Macro Stop
The "MENU"/"Setup"/"Automatic mode"/"Coagulation degree"/"Bipo coag degree mac" operating
sequence takes the user to the menu level where the degree of coagulation can be set as desired
(cut-off criterion). Note, however, that tissue adhesion to the instrument’s tongs is also influenced
by the degree of coagulation – the higher the degree of coagulation, the higher the adhesion ten-
dency. Nonetheless, the maxium’s coagulation process has been optimized so as to minimize tis-
sue adhesion even under conditions of strong tissue desiccation.
