SPAN Troubleshooting
This chapter describes the basic idea of analyzing the SPAN module faults,
as well as the common used methods and commands for fixing the SPAN
faults.
SPAN Troubleshooting
Fault 1: SPAN cannot mirror to the source port packet.
Possible Reasons
Judging Methods and Solutions
The ACL filtering is
configured on the source
port or destination port.
The ACL filtering is performed before mirroring. As a result,
SPAN cannot mirror to the source port packet. To solve the
problem, you just need to delete ACL.
Creating the tx of mirroring
source port fails.
View whether the flow mirroring is created. The flow mirroring
and port mirroring tx use the same hardware resource, which
results in the creating failure. Here, you just need to delete the
flow mirroring and then check.
Fault 2: RSPAN cannot mirror to the source port packet.
Possible Reasons
Judging Methods and Solutions
remote-vlan is not set up.
Use the show run command to view whether remote vlan is
set up and add the VLAN to RSPAN.
Use the remote vlan command in vlan * to set up remote vlan
and add the VLAN to rspan according to the configuration
requirement.
One port can bear the
remote vlan of only one
mirroring group.
When the switch is used for multiple rspan sessions, one port
can be used for only one mirroring group.
Here, you can add other ports to new mirroring groups or
delete the port from the original mirroring group.
Other switch exists in
RSPAN, while the VLAN that
bears the mirroring packets
in the switch does not
disable the MAC address
learning.
Mirroring the packets of only one direction can succeed, but
mirroring the packets of two directions fails, because the VLAN
that bears the mirroring packets in other switch does not
disable the MAC address learning.
Here, you just need to disable the MAC address learning
function of the VLAN.
The reflect port is not
hybrid link.
If the reflect port is access link, the TAG packets cannot be
mirrored. You can use the show run command in privileged
mode to view whether the reflect port is hybrid. If not, use the
port command in config mode to enter the port, and use the
port mode hybrid command to change the port to hybrid
mode. And then add the port to the mirroring destination port.
