MAPI
(Messaging Application Programming Interface) is the
Microsoft interface specification that allows different
messaging and workgroup applications (including e-mail,
voice mail, and fax) to work through a single client, such as
the Exchange client . MAPI uses the default Windows e-mail
application.
SMTP
(Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is a TCP/IP protocol
for sending messages from one computer to another
through a network. This protocol is used on the Internet to
route e-mail. In many cases no account is needed.
