contactor. The battery contactor, which is below the ground/flight switch
and audible when operated, is closed whenever it is at FLIGHT and the
ground power contactors are open. The negative feed is connected to
earth through the ground/flight switch when it is selected to FLIGHT.
The only electrical services connected permanently to the batteries are
the ground servicing lights controlled by a switch beside the entrance
door.
Note:
If the ground servicing lights are left ON the batteries will be drained
irrespective of the position of the ground/flight switch. The ground servicing
lights, which are in parallel, are directly connected to the batteries.
5.
DC Generators.
Two 1500 watt 24 volt DC generators are provided
and are driven by a quill drive from the main engine wheel case. The
generators are connected in parallel to each other and the aircraft batteries.
Each generator has a cut out, voltage regulator and field control switches.
The generators output is automatically controlled when the engines are
running.
6.
Main Electrical Panel.
The main electrical panel (MEP) is on the
starboard side of the fuselage just forward of the front main spar. On
the exterior of the panel are two generator field switches, two ammeters
(one for each generator) and a system voltmeter. Inside the MEP are
the generator cut outs, carbon pile regulators and aircraft services circuit
breakers.
7.
Fuse Panels.
In addition to the MEP, 3 fuse panels are aft of the
Flight Engineer’s panel and supply the remainder of the aircraft electrical
services.
8.
Voltmeter.
The voltmeter indicates the ground power, batteries or
generators voltage across the main busbar within the MEP.
CAUTION:
If the voltmeter reads in excess of 29 volts the batteries are
being overcharged.
9.
Ammeters.
The ammeters show the total load taken by the generators
when on line. They will only indicate the charging current of the batteries
if all electrical services are switched off.
