spare bulbs are within the indicator and are accessible if the indicator
is dismantled. When the undercarriage is UP and locked, all lights
are out. When an undercarriage leg is released from its up-lock, but
the down-lock is not engaged a red light is illuminated. When the leg
is in the DOWN position and the associated down-lock is engaged,
its green light is illuminated and red light is out. In the event of a
green light bulb failure, rotate the changeover switch in the centre
of the position indicator to select the two alternate green bulbs. The
undercarriage system has two safety devices.
b.
Undercarriage Warning Horn.
The undercarriage warning
horn will sound if either of the inboard throttles are closed and the
undercarriage is not locked down. A warning horn test button and
lamp are behind the Pilot on the cockpit left rail.
WARNING
:
The horn is barely audible in flight due to the high levels
of ambient noise.
c.
Ignition Switch Interlock.
An ignition switch interlock is on the
port engine ignition switches. They cannot be switched ON unless
the undercarriage indicator switch is selected ON.
4.
Flaps.
A flap control handle is at the front right side of the Pilot’s seat.
The handle, which moves vertically up and down, has three positions:
UP, central NEUTRAL with detent and DOWN. The lever moves the
flaps in the natural sense and they can be stopped in any position from
fully UP to fully DOWN by placing the handle to the NEUTRAL position.
Movement of the handle directs fluid from the pressure line to a flap jack
on the fuselage floor aft of the rear main spar. When fluid is fed to the
DOWN side of the jack ram, it moves the ram to the port that, through flap
tubes and operating fingers, translates this movement to extend the flaps.
When selected UP the reverse is true. Indication of flap position is on a flap
position indicator on the right hand side of the pilot’s front panel, the gauge
is powered through a flap position switch adjacent to the indicator.
5.
Bomb Doors.
A bomb door control lever is to the rear left side of
the Pilot’s seat. When pulled upwards the lever moves a control valve
that supplies fluid to the four bomb door jacks closing the bomb doors.
When the lever is pushed down the reverse is true. Indication of bomb
door opening is given by a bomb door indicator light on the lower left-
hand side of the pilot’s panel. The light is illuminated whenever the bomb
doors are not closed.
