b. Just forward of the entrance door on the starboard side of the
fuselage.
c. Adjacent to the forward spar on the starboard side of the
fuselage.
d. On the forward face of the Navigator’s table.
e. To the left rear of the Pilot’s seat.
f. At the Bomb Aimer’s position on the right-hand side of the
fuselage.
7. The extinguishant is non-toxic. The bottles are trigger-operated and
can be stopped and restarted. Total discharge time is approximately
38 seconds. To ensure optimum firefighting performance is obtained,
the extinguishers should be used at a range of four to six feet from the
source of the fire with the extinguishers held within 60
°
of the vertical.
Pre-flight, ensure that all extinguishers are stowed securely and that their
bursting discs are intact.
Inertia Switches
8. Two inertia switches are on the starboard side of the Bomb Aimer’s
position. In the event of a crash landing or ditching, where in excess of
3G is sustained and both inertia switches operate, all eight engine fire
bottles are discharged simultaneously.
WARNING:
Operation of the inertia switches does not isolate electrical
power from the aircraft.
EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT
Emergency Exits
9. In addition to the entrance door, there are four designated emergency
exits (Fig 1). Emergency egress can also be made through the two
pilots’ sliding windows or by rotating the tail gunners turret.
