H.264:
The H.264 codec delivers the same quality as MPEG-2 at
a third to half the data rate. H.264 is additionally acclaimed for its
scalability, as it provides superior file size to quality ratios for a range
of video resolutions, from mobile devices to HD.
MKV:
Matrovska (MKV) is similar to other video containers but its
specification is entirely open. It is a highly effective container for
storing common multimedia content, and has become extremely
popular for distributing HD content.
MPEG-2 HD:
MPEG-2 is widely implemented thanks to its support
for interlaced video (the type used by analog broadcast TV sys-
tems) and support for HD-quality streams. It outperforms MPEG-1
at higher resolutions (greater than 3Mbit/s) in terms of quality and
compression efficacy.
