Windows Configuration 5-7
Windows NT 4.0 IPX Protocol Installation
The IPX protocol must be installed on each PC that will use peer to peer printing over
IPX. The following instructions describe installation of the IPX protocol.
1. Click on the Windows NT 4.0 Start button and select Settings, Control Panel,
Network.
2.
Click on the Protocols tab and check to see if NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible
Transport is displayed on the list of protocols. If it is on the list, IPX is already
installed. Please continue with the next section. If it is NOT on the list, click on
Add.
3. Select
NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible Transport from the list of protocols and
click on OK. Windows will prompt for the required Windows disks to install the
IPX protocol.
4.
Once the files are copied, click on OK to close the network control panel.
Windows will prompt to restart the system. The IPX protocol will not be active
until the system is restarted.
Optional: Changing the Printer Name
The IPX peer to peer printing software uses the NetWare Print Server Name to
identify the 2000E. The default name is the serial number preceded by KYO, e.g.,
KYO-163495. If desired, this name can be changed to a more easily identifiable name
with the Management Access Program (MAP).
To change the name with MAP, follow the MAP configuration instructions in section
4.4 - EcoLAN 2000E Configuration (the settings other than NetWare Print Server
Name do not need to be entered). MAP requires the IPX protocol.
IPX Peer to Peer Printing Software Installation
The peer to peer printing software should be installed on each Windows 95/98 PC or
Windows NT 4.0 workstation that will use peer to peer printing services.
The IPX Peer to Peer Printing setup program may be launched from the same Acrobat
.PDF files which were used to access this manual or may be run directly from the CD
ROM using the following procedure:
1.
Insert the CD ROM included with the EcoLAN 2000E.
2.
Click on the Windows 95/98 or NT 4.0 Start button, select Run, and type:
D:\IPX-P2P\SETUP.EXE (This assumes D is the drive letter of your CD ROM.
Substitute the appropriate drive letter if necessary for your system.)
3.
Follow the setup program prompts.
