AUTOMATIC MODE CONTROL

switch (Figure 11-21) on the copilot’s sub-
panel is in the AUTO position, the heating
and air conditioning systems operate auto-
matically. The systems are connected to a
control box by means of a balanced bridge
circuit. If a war mer cabin temperature has
been selected, the automatic temperature
c o n t r o l m o d u l a t e s t h e c a b i n h e a t c o n t r o l
valves one at a time to allow heated air to
bypass the air-to-air heat exchangers in the
wing center sections. This war m bleed air
is then brought into the cabin where it is
mixed with recirculated cabin air in the floor
ducting under the copilot floor area. The
automatic temperature control system will
then modulate the bypass valves to main-
tain the proper temperature of the incoming
bleed air.
When the automatic control drives the en-
vironmental system from a heating mode to
a cooling mode, the bypass valves move to-
wa r d t h e c o o l p o s i t i o n ( bl e e d a i r p a s s e s
through the air-to-air heat exchanger). When
the left valve reaches the full cold position,
the air-conditioning system will begin cool-
ing. When the left bypass valve is moved ap-
proximately 30° toward the heat position the
air-conditioning system will tur n off pre-
venting unnecessar y recycling of the air-
conditioning system.
The CABIN TEMP–INCR (Figure 11-22)
control provides regulation of the tempera-
ture level in the automatic mode. A temper-
a t u r e - s e n s i n g u n i t i n t h e c a b i n , i n
conjunction with the control setting, initiates
a heat or cool command to the temperature
controller, requesting the desired pressure-
vessel environment.
