11 Options
11.1 24 V back­up on power failure
Applies to D3­DP 3xx/x­ xx5x (in preparation)
11.1.1 Purpose of the function
The "24 V backup on power failure" function is used to stop in a controlled
manner the masses moved in a mechanical system (e.g. robot arm). For this
purpose the DC link in the 24 V switched­mode power supply (24 V SMPS)
is coupled to the DC links in the axis module (DC Link +/­). During braking of
the drive axis, energy is generated that charges the DC links in the axis
modules. Using this additional energy the 24 V supply voltage can be main­
tained for longer.
11.1.2 Function description
The system does not in principle react to power failure, but to the resulting
undervoltage in the DC link on the axis modules or in the DC link in the
switched­mode power supply.
11.2 Version without 24 V switched­mode power supply

11.2.1 Purpose of the variant
With this design variant you can supply the control section for the system us­
ing an existing switched­mode power supply, because this variant has a 24
V DC input.
The switched­mode power supply must meet the following minimum require­
ments:
● Uv = 24 V ± 10 %, stabilised and smoothed (operating voltage)
● Pv = 470 W min. (power drawn)
● Internal polarity reversal protection
● The power supply unit used must have safe isolation in relation to the
mains as per EN 50178 or EN 61800­5­1.
● The starting current for the control voltage can briefly reach 2­3 times
the operating current.
