On bikes with gear levers with fixed positions it sometimes happens that the chain will not switch to
the correct chain drive or chain sprocket when the gear levers are used. This also produces
abnormal noise. If this happens, go back to the gear you tried to change from and and change gear
again by pressing the gear lever firmly to its end position before releasing it.

The gear system should only be adjusted by qualified personnel.

Adjusting the chain tension

On bikes with chain tensioners (all bikes with chain gears) it is not necessary to adjust the chain tension.
On bikes without gears or bikes with hub gears (without chain tensioners) the chain tension should be
adjusted so that the chain can be moved 10 mm up or down from its normal position with moderate force
between the chain drive and chain sprocket. Do not overtension the chain, this will prevent the
transmission from running smoothly.

Wheels and spokes

The spokes in both the front and back wheels should be uniformly tensioned. The wheel will become
skew if individual spokes have a low or high tension. Minor distortion in a wheel can be corrected by
adjusting the spoke tension. This should only be done by qualified personnel. The braking surface on the
rims must be kept clean and free from grease. Do not use unsuitable detergents, they can reduce the
braking power. Clean the wheels and the bike with a clean, soft cloth and warm water.

Lubrication

The chain must be lubricated once a month with thin machine oil. Turn round the chain a few times when
lubricating it to spread the oil. Wipe off excess oil with a dry cloth. All the bearings should be lubricated
with grease once a year. All components should be cleaned first before lubricating.

Maximum load (cyclist and bagage)

Children's bike with 16 inch wheel diameter: 35 kg
Children's bike with 20 inch wheel diameter: 60 kg
Bike with 24, 26 or 28 inch wheel diameter: 110 kg

MAINTENANCE

Keep all the moving parts clean so that the bike will function properly with a minimum of wear.

Wash the bike with hot water and a suitable detergent, and wipe dry with a clean cloth.

Do not clean the rims with solvent, this could reduce the braking power.

Do not expose the bike to corrosive chemicals, acids, bases, or solvents etc.

Keep the bike clean.

Lubricate the chain at regular intervals.
