3.7 TRANSPORTATION, LIFTING, AND TIE-DOWN
PROCEDURES
Loading or Towing
If loading machine up a ramp to the trailer with the aid of a winch,
connect the winch cable to the castor/gate end of the chassis using
the location holes provided. First run a strap around the front tow/
tie down pins mounted inside the fork lift pockets, and then connect
the winch cable to the strap.
When towing ensure the castor wheel locks are unlocked, and that
the platform is fully lowered in the transport position.
Before disconnecting the machine from the winch cable, engage the
castor wheel locks to keep the machine from rolling.
Vehicle Transport
Always transport the machine in the upright position. Do not lay the
machine flat. Ensure the transport vehicle is parked on a level sur
-
face.
The machine can be loaded via a forklift, tail-lift, or winch. Never
push the machine up a slope greater than 5° without the aid of a
winch or forklift. When using a forklift, lock the front castor wheels
to keep the machine from rolling. Ensure forklift tines are fully
inserted into the chassis sockets.
If tying down the machine using straps or chains, the platform must
be fully lowered to the stowed position with the machine securely
tied down to the truck or trailer deck.
NOTICE
NEVER PLACE THE STRAP THROUGH THE PLATFORM OR HANDRAILS. THIS COULD RESULT
IN MACHINE DAMAGE. DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE WHEN TIGHTENING STRAPS.
Storage
If the machine is to be taken out of operation for a period longer
than one month, the following precautions should be taken:
•
Turn on the battery charger. The charger has a programmed main
-
tenance mode and will maintain the battery in good condition
indefinitely. However, it is important to check the electrolyte level
periodically. If this is not practical, then the charger should be
switched on once a week for 30 minutes. This is especially import
-
ant in cold conditions.
•
All pivots must be greased with anti-seize grease on a monthly
basis. Refer to Section 5.4 for information on greasing pivots.
•
It is recommended to replace the hydraulic oil after three months
of non-use. Refer to Section 5.4 for information on changing the
hydraulic oil.
•
If the storage period is for an undetermined period, remove the
battery and store it in a secure battery storage container. Cover all
electrical and hydraulic connections to prevent corrosion.
