Jaylor Dump Wagon Owner Manual
16.
FIELD OPERATION
General
16.1
Improper dump wagon loading causes many accidents and deaths. To safely load a dump wagon you
must consider the overall load weight, the load weight distribution and the proper tongue weight.
Always load the dump wagon as evenly as possible. Distribute the weight of the load over the axles
so that the wagon applies roughly 10% of the total weight to the towing vehicle.
If loading more than one type of commodity always load the heaviest commodity first to keep the
wagon’s centre of gravity as low as possible. Never exceed the weight capacity of the dump wagon or
the towing capacity of the towing vehicle.
Remember: heavy commodities may not fill the volume
of the dump box before reaching the weight capacity.
Tip-Over Conditions:
Wind
– Do not attempt raising the dump box in unsafe wind conditions.
Terrain
– Be sure the dump wagon is on a smooth, level, firm surface before lifting the dump
box.
Hung Loads
– if a load will not discharge when the dump box is raised do not attempt to
dislodge the load; lower the dump box immediately and loosen the load with the dump box in
the lowered state.
Jackknife Position
– Do not attempt to raise the dump box with the wagon in a jackknife
position. Always have the dump wagon and towing vehicle in a straight line when dumping.
Overloading
– Never load more than the recommended weight capacity of your dump wagon.
If the wagon is overloaded,
do not
attempt to raise the dump box. The excess material must
be removed by equipment designed for this purpose or by hand.
Loading Procedure
16.2
Follow these guidelines when loading silage and other feed materials into the dump wagon:
1. Perform the Pre-Operation Checklist (
Section 15
2. Make sure the dump wagon is coupled to the towing vehicle before loading. This is necessary
because the tongue can rise during loading.
3. Be sure the dump wagon is on a smooth, level, firm surface. Loading while on uneven or soft
terrain can lead to a tip-over.
4. Be sure to distribute the load evenly from front to back and side to side. An improperly
distributed load can result in tip-over.
5. Load the heaviest commodities first to keep the dump wagon’s centre of gravity low.
6. Never overload the dump wagon. An overloaded wagon can cause hydraulic system
malfunction, tire damage and tip-over.
7. Do not transport people, animals, hazardous substances or flammable liquids in the dump
wagon.
