ILTER
The PR-8xx features three ND filters, ND1 through ND3 (allowing for signal attenuation from 10 to 1000).
These Neutral density filters should be used when an Overload condition is reported by the instrument.
Step 1) Click on the

icon in the ND field to select the desired value. Choices are ND1,
ND2, and ND3.

The PR-8xx features four Gain settings, 1X, 10X, 100X and Maximum. These gains are analog gains
therefore by increasing the gain, the measurement noise increases proportionally. To help average the
noise, the
Frequency Response (see Frequency Response section for more detail) value can be modified.

The PR-8xx utilizes the Photo Research Inc. Adaptive Sensitivity ™ algorithm. During a measurement, the
optical radiation (light) is sampled for a period of time determined by the Adaptive Sensitivity ™
algorithm. The algorithm automatically determines the correct parameters (Gain and ND Filter) based on
the available signal. Following the light measurement, a measurement of the dark current of the detector
is made for the same length of time that was used for the light measurement. The dark measurement is
then subtracted from the light measurement yielding the contribution of light for each detector element.
The adaptive algorithm can be enabled for Gain or ND filter selection or for both simultaneously.
