Figure 36:
1.
Lubricate bearings seats on shaft and slide bearings on shaft as far as possible by hand. Use a
driving sleeve such as the one shown in
8.5 Ball bearing installation on page 51
sleeve contacts inner race only. Drive or press bearing on shaft until it is firmly seated against
shoulder on shaft.
NOTICE:
Grease lubricated bearings are shielded on one side to retain grease. When correctly installed,
shielded side of bearings will face one another. Do no mar shaft.
2.
Place shaft retaining ring in groove on coupling end of shaft. Make sure ring is properly seated.
3.
Slide bearing housing over coupling end bearing and place snap ring (3A) in groove. Ring is bev-
eled on one side. Flat side must face bearing.
4.
On oil lubricated units only, place O-ring in position on O.D. of bearing housing.
5.
Slide shaft assembly into bearing frame. Be careful not to damage inboard oil or grease seal as
shaft is pushed through. On units containing a single outside seal, place deflector, drive collar,
rotary assembly and gland on shaft as it is pushed through bearing frame. See Fig. 37.
6.
Push shaft through frame until bearing housing butts against the end of the bearing frame. Insert
bearing housing-to-bearing frame bolts. Tighten finger tight, then back bolts off 1 turn.
7.
All units contain a mechanical seal. Refer to the order acknowledgement and seal drawing (sup-
plied with pump) to determine seal type. The following instructions are for the three basic seal
types available: single outside, PTFE bellows, and inside double seal determine the applicable
type and carefully follow the procedures.
