6.5 Inspection and Overhaul
1.
Shaft – Check for run-out to see that shaft has not been bent. Bearing seats and oil seal areas
must be in perfect condition and free of scratches or grooves. Replace shaft if necessary.
2.
Bearings – Replace if worn, loose or rough ad noisy when rotated. If dirty, see Section
. New bearings should not be unwrapped until ready for use. Re-
placement bearings must be of the proper size and type as specified in
3.
Oil or grease seals – Replace if torn or otherwise damaged. The sizes used are: Inboard seal-
Victor 62021 (W) or equal. Coupling end seal – Victor 62000 (W) or equal. If contamination of
bearings or oil has been a problem on an oil lubricated pump, reverse the position of seals so lips
face outward. In this position, a slight oil leakage may occur.
4.
Retaining rings – Replace if bent or otherwise damaged. The sizes use are: Shaft retaining
ring-5100 #98 Bearing housing retaining ring-5002 #244
5.
PTFE coated parts – All PTFE coated parts should be thoroughly inspected for cracks or exces-
sive wear prior to assembly.
6.
Mechanical seal – Seal faces, gaskets and shaft sealing members must be in perfect condition.
Replace worn or damaged parts.
7.
General – All parts should be clean before assembly. This is especially important at retaining ring
grooves, threads, gasket surfaces and bearing areas. Any burrs should be removed with crocus
cloth.
