Port Security Mode Procedure
On a port configured for Port-based security, the FastSwitch will monitor the ethernet link signal
from the connected device. If the FastSwitch detects loss of the link signal, it will interpret this as
a cable disconnect. The port will be instantanously disabled according to the configured cable
disconnect option:
• Timed Option
The port will be disabled for a timeout period of five minutes, after which time the port is
automatically enabled. If a power cycle occurs after a port disable, the port will come up
disabled and then becom re-enabled after the 5-minute timeout.
• Permanent Option
The port will be disabled permanently until manually re-enabled by an authorized
administrator. If a power cycle occurs after a port disable, the port will come up disabled.
Note
FastSwitch does not distinguish between a cable disconnect, a link failure, or host power-down. All these
situations will cause a port disable (permanent or timed) on the port configured for port-based security.
1. Log into the FastSwitch as an administrator.
2. Configure a port for Port-based security by typing:
configure security port-based port
[n]
3. Set the port for the desired disconnect protection option by typing:
configure security
[timed or permanent]
port
[n]
4. Enable the port to transmit and receive by typing:
configure ports enable port
[n]
5. To prevent hacks into an unused ports, disable the port by typing:
configure ports disable port
[n]

to check the configured security settings for all ports.
