򐂰 The Timing Network window now includes the next scheduled Daylight Saving Time
change and the next leap second adjustment, as shown in Figure 11-27. The schedules
that are shown are the ones for the next DLS change (either given per automatic or
scheduled adjustment) and for the next Leap Second change (given per scheduled
adjustment).

Enhanced Console Assisted Recovery
Enhanced Console Assisted Recovery (ECAR) goes through these steps:
1. When the Primary Time Server (PTS/CTS) encounters a check-stop condition, the CEC
informs its SE and HMC.
2. The PTS SE recognizes the check-stop pending condition, and the PTS SE STP code is
called.
3. The PTS SE sends an ECAR request through the HMC to the BTS SE.
4. The Backup Time Server (BTS) SE communicates with the BTS to start the takeover.
ECAR support is faster than the original CAR support for these reasons:
򐂰 The console path goes from a 2-way path to a one-way path.
򐂰
There is almost no lag time between the system check-stop and the start of ECAR
processing.
򐂰 Because the request is generated from the PTS before system logging, it avoids the
potential of recovery being held up.
Attention: Figure 11-27 shows a ‘Schedule leap second offset’ change to 26 seconds that
is scheduled for 12/31/2014. This is
not
a real leap second released by the International
Earth Rotation and Reference System Services. It was temporarily set
only
to show the
window appearance.
