IBM z13s Technical Guide
The store system information (STSI) instruction gives more useful and detailed information
about the base configuration, and about temporary upgrades. STSI enables you to more
easily resolve billing situations where independent software vendor (ISV) products are in use.
The model and MCI returned by the STSI instruction are updated to coincide with the
upgrade. See “Store system information instruction” on page 351 for more details.
8.3.1 MES upgrade for processors
An MES upgrade for processors can concurrently
add CPs, ICFs, zIIPs, IFLs, and SAPs to a
z13s server by assigning available PUs that are on the CPC drawers, through LICCC.
Depending on the quantity of the additional processors in the upgrade, an additional CPC
drawer might be required before the LICCC is enabled. Addition of a second CPC drawer is
disruptive. More capacity can be provided by adding CPs, by changing the MCI on the current
CPs, or by doing both.
8.3.2 MES upgrade for memory
An MES upgrade for memory can concurrently
add more memory by enabling, through
LICCC, extra capacity up to the limit of the currently installed memory cards. Installing an
additional CPC drawer, and enabling the memory capacity on the new drawer with LICCC,
are disruptive upgrades.
The Preplanned Memory feature (FC 1996 - 16 GB increment or FC 1993 - 8 GB increment)
is available to enable better control over future memory upgrades. See 2.4.5, “Preplanned
memory” on page 63, for details about plan-ahead memory features.
The N10 model has, as a minimum, ten 16 GB dual inline memory modules (DIMMs),
resulting in 160 GB of installed memory. The minimum customer addressable storage is
64 GB. If you require more than that amount, a
non-concurrent
upgrade can install up to
984 GB of memory for customer use by changing the existing DIMMs.
The N20 single CPC drawer model has, as a minimum, ten 16 GB DIMMs (five DIMMs per
node), resulting in 160 GB of installed memory. The minimum customer addressable storage
is 64 GB. If you require more than that amount, a
non-concurrent
upgrade can install up to
2008 GB of memory for customer use in a single drawer N20.
The N20 two CPC drawer model has, as a minimum, twenty 16 GB DIMMS (five DIMMs per
node in both drawers), resulting in 320 GB of installed memory. The minimum customer
addressable storage is 64 GB. If you require more than that amount, a nondisruptive upgrade
can install up to 256 GB or, by using a disruptive upgrade, up to 4056 GB, by changing the
existing DIMMs.
Upgrades: The MES provides the physical upgrade, resulting in more enabled processors,
separate capacity settings for the CPs, additional memory, and more I/O ports. Extra
planning tasks are required for nondisruptive logical upgrades (see “Suggestions to avoid
disruptive upgrades” on page 353).
Maximums: The sum of CPs, inactive CPs, ICFs, zIIPs, IFLs, unassigned IFLs, and SAPs
cannot exceed the maximum limit of PUs available for customer use. The number of zIIPs
cannot exceed twice the number of purchased CPs.
