Installing a SAS hard disk drive
To install a SAS hard disk drive, complete the following steps.
Note: The following illustration shows how to install the SAS hard disk drive in the
blade server; installing the SAS hard disk drive in the MPE unit is similar.

1. Touch the static-protective package that contains the hard disk drive to any
unpainted metal surface on the BladeCenter unit or any unpainted metal surface
on any other grounded rack component; then, remove the hard disk drive from
the package.
Attention: Do not press on the top of the drive. Pressing the top might
damage the drive.
2. Place the hard disk drive into the drive tray and push it into the connector at the
rear of the drive tray, until the drive moves past the lever at the front of the tray.
3. Install the MPE unit, if one was removed while removing the hard disk drive
(see “Installing an expansion unit” on page 71).
4. Install the blade server cover (see “Installing the blade server cover” on page
69).
5. Install the blade server into the BladeCenter unit (see “Installing the blade
server in a BladeCenter unit” on page 66).
