working on in those programs in working memory. Your
computer can access this working memory very quickly,
but it does not automatically keep the data in this area
when you turn your computer off. If you want to
continue working where you left off the next time you
turn on your computer, you must start your software
programs again and reopen your data files. Any
personal data you did not save to a file before you
turned your computer off is lost. (Saved files are not
lost.)
If you enable Rapid Resume before you turn off your
computer, Rapid Resume stores the program
information and unsaved personal data from the
working memory area to a special file on your hard disk.
(This is called suspending.) Then when you turn on your
computer again, Rapid Resume uses this special file to
restore your desktop. (This is called resuming.) Personal
data you did not save to file before you turned off your
computer is also restored.
To enable (turn on) or disable (turn off) the Rapid
Resume feature, double-click on the

Automatic Power Off
The Automatic Power Off feature automatically turns off
your computer when you have not used your computer

your computer. For these instructions, see “Rapid
Resume advanced options” on page 40.
You can enable the Automatic Power Off feature only
