Local Console Manager Installation and User’s Guide
If you are chaining multiple CO cables or target devices, see “Chaining target devices with CO
cables” on page 16 for more information.
Connecting local peripheral devices
The LCM2 appliance provides two sets of ports for local users. To connect local peripheral devices
to these ports, complete the following steps:
1.
Connect a keyboard, monitor, and mouse to the first set of color-coded ports on the rear of
the appliance.
2.
Connect a keyboard, monitor, and mouse to the second set of color-coded ports on the rear of
the appliance.
3.
Bundle and label the cables for easy identification.
To connect local virtual media, complete the following step:
Connect the virtual media to any one of the USB ports on the appliance. For all virtual media
sessions, you must use a VCO.
Tiering LCM2 appliances
You can tier multiple LCM2 appliances to enable one or two users to connect to up to
512
target
devices. You can reach a maximum number of 2048 target devices if you tier a digital 16 port
appliance on the main level, an LCM2 appliance on the second level, and an analog 16 port
appliance on the third level. In a tiered switching system, each ARI port on the main LCM2
appliance can connect to the ACI port on each tiered appliance. Each tiered appliance can then be
connected to a target device with a CO cable. The example in Figure 2.4 on page 14 shows two
LCM2 appliances that are tiered under the main appliance, enabling the connection of up to seven
primary target devices, seven secondary target devices, and eight tertiary target devices. Using this
configuration, you can tier eight appliances under the main appliance and eight appliances under
each secondary appliance, enabling the connection of up to 512 target devices. The third level of
tiering can be either earlier-model appliances or another LCM2 appliance. In this configuration, the
local port OSCAR interface is disabled when the secondary LCM2 appliance is connected through
the ACI port below another appliance.
To tier multiple LCM2 appliances, complete the following steps:
1.
Connect the tiered LCM2 appliance to each target device as described in “Installing the LCM2
appliance” on page 10.
2.
Connect one or two users to the main appliance as described in “Connecting local peripheral
devices” on page 12.
3.
Attach one end of the Cat5 cable to the ACI port on the tiered LCM2 appliance.
4.
Attach the other end of the Cat5 cable to one of the ARI ports on the rear of the main LCM2
appliance.
The switching system will automatically merge the two appliances. All target devices that are
connected to the tiered LCM2 appliance are included in the main LCM2 appliance target
