Cabling Capacity Upgrade enclosures
This chapter describes the two recommended cabling configurations. It includes:
•
on page 22
•
on page 22
•
Cabling up to two enclosures above and two enclosures below the head server
•
Cabling all enclosures below the head server
on page 36
•
Factory-integrated SAS cabling configuration
on page 39
Power on prerequisites
If you have followed the instructions in
on page 18, the disk enclosure is
now powered on but has no SAS cables connected. This is the recommended cabling sequence.
If you choose to connect the SAS cables before the power cables, power on the enclosure when all SAS
cabling is complete. The power button is on the rear of the unit.
Maintenance mode with Remote Support via STaTS
If Remote Support via STaTS is configured, use the following StoreOnce CLI command to put the
StoreOnce System into maintenance mode prior to connecting the SAS cables. This will prevent a
support case being generated:
system enable remoteeventsuppression “Nth JBOD Capacity Upgrade”
Once expansion is complete, use the following StoreOnce CLI command to disable remote event
suppression:
system disable remoteeventsuppression “Nth JBOD Capacity Upgrade”
Cabling sequence overview
The enclosure that is bundled with the head server is always connected to the RAID controller card in Slot
2 of the head server.
The required connection sequence when expanding storage by adding disk enclosures is:
1.
Cable the first Capacity Upgrade enclosure to the RAID controller card in Slot 3.
2.
Daisy chain the next Capacity Upgrade enclosure to the enclosure already connected to the RAID
controller card in Slot 2.
3.
Daisy chain the final Capacity Upgrade enclosure to the enclosure already connected to the RAID
controller card in Slot 3.
IMPORTANT:
When connecting additional enclosures, follow the SAS cabling instructions carefully to ensure that
the SAS cabling integrity is maintained. See
Cabling up to two enclosures above and two
enclosures below the head server
on page 23 and
Cabling all enclosures below the head
on page 36 for cabling diagrams.
