Installing Windows NT 4.0

The Windows NT 4.0 Recovery CD comes with all Windows 2000 models of the
OmniBook 6000. The following procedure installs a retail version of Windows NT 4.0
and configures the appropriate device drivers.

This section describes how to:

Prepare for software installation.

Install Windows NT 4.0.

•

Install Service Pack 5.

•

Install

video

support.

•

Install audio support.

•

Install pointing device support.

•

Install IDE support.

•

Install Intel® SpeedStep™ technology applet.

•

Disable automatic CD-ROM detection.

To prepare for software installation

To install Windows NT, you must have the following:

•

HP Notebook with floppy drive and cable, and internal CD-ROM/DVD drive.

•

Blank, formatted floppy disk.

•

Retail Windows NT Workstation CD.

•

HP Notebook Drivers for Windows NT 4.0

Location: On the Product Recovery CD in \HP\DRIVERS\NT4, or they can be
downloaded from www.hp.com/go/support.

If you install a retail version of Windows NT 4.0, you’ll also need to manually install the
drivers that support the hardware in your computer.

It is recommended you repartition your hard disk before installing Windows NT 4.0. If
you are installing retail Windows NT 4.0 over the HP Notebook Windows 95/98 image,
