Installing Windows 98

Corporate Evaluator’s Guide 107

To install video support

If you have installed retail Windows you need to install the video driver. The video driver
is contained in the \HP\DRIVERS\W98\VIDEO subdirectory.

1. Run SETUP.EXE from the \HP\DRIVERS\W98\VIDEO directory.

2. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the video driver.

The driver will be installed after the system reboots.

Upon successful installation, an ATI icon appears on the bottom right corner of the
taskbar.

To install audio support

If you have installed retail Windows you need to install the Audio drivers. The Audio
drivers are contained in the \HP\DRIVERS\W98\AUDIO subdirectory.

1. Run ESSETUP.EXE from the \HP\DRIVERS\W98\AUDIO directory.

Note

If your Notebook came with an ESS soft modem, ESSETUP.EXE will also install
modem drivers.

2. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the drivers.

The drivers will be installed after the system reboots.

To install pointing device support

If you’ve installed a retail version of Windows 98, you can install pointing device
support.

The integrated pointing device(s) is fully supported by the Synaptics Touchpad driver.
With the standard PS/2 mouse driver the integrated pointing device(s) will function, but
will be without most special features.

The touchpad files are located on the Recovery CD under
\HP\DRIVERS\W98\Touchpad.

1. Run SETUP.EXE from the \HP\DRIVERS\W98\Touchpad subdirectory.

2. Follow the instructions and restart to complete the installation.
