Resolving Common Problems 

Preventing Buffer Underruns

Note: 

If a buffer underrun occurs during an actual write operation rather 

than during a test operation, the CD may be ruined.

➜

Try closing other programs (disable screen savers, virus 
software, and other tasks or applications running in the 
background).

➜

Defragment your hard drive.

➜

Make sure that the temporary files are created on a local 
hard drive. Do not assign the location of temporary files to a 
directory on a network drive. Set the location for the 
temporary files by selecting the Options command under the 
Tools menu.

➜

Record at a slower speed.

➜

Do not record across a network. Copy the desired files or 
folders to your local hard drive.

➜

Check the Auto Resync box under Drive Properties (for the 
source drive).

Note: 

The Easy CD Creator software automatically turns on a feature called 

Audio Resync. Audio Resync helps the drive resync the buffer so that the 
extraction is clean without audio dropouts. When Easy CD Creator tests the 
drive, there are two read audio commands used at different parts of the CD: 
the center, the middle, and the outer edge. If there is dropout or slow 
extraction, it automatically turns on Audio Resync. Audio Resync affects the 
performance of the drive by about 50-60 percent, causing the audio 
extraction speed with resync on to be slower but more reliable.

A buffer underrun is a 
common error condition 
that occurs when the flow 
of data from the source 
device (for example hard 
drive, DVD-ROM or CD-
ROM drive) to the CD-RW 
drive is interrupted long 
enough for the CD-RW 
drive’s buffer to be 
emptied. Once a buffer 
underrun occurs, the CD 
creation process is halted. 
To successfully create a 
CD, a continuous data 
stream must be maintained 
at the selected recording 
speed.
