What is a Mixed-Mode CD?
Creating CDs Containing Audio and Data
There are many reasons to combine data and audio on a CD.
These include the ability to:

Make an Audio CD and add text files of the song’s lyrics
➜
Use a CD to store data and later add songs to the same CD
➜
Make a multimedia CD (see “Multimedia CDs”)
Creating Mixed-Mode CDs
When you create a Mixed-Mode CD, the CD Layout contains
both a data and an audio section. First add files and folders to
the Data CD Layout section; then add the tracks, WAV, or MP3
files to the Audio CD Layout section.
To create a Mixed-Mode CD:
1. Open Easy CD Creator from the Start menu. Click Start ,
point to Programs , point to Adaptec Easy CD Creator ,
point to Features , and then select Easy CD Creator .
2. Click the small arrow next to the New button on the toolbar
and then select Mixed-Mode CD .
3. Add the data files you want to record to the Data CD Layout
section of the Mixed-Mode Layout window.
a. Click Data Layout in the left pane of the Mixed-Mode
CD Layout.
b. In the Explorer section, select the data file or folder you
want to record and then click Add .
c. Repeat until the Data CD Layout contains all of the files
and folders that you want to record.

Caution: Home and car CD players may attempt to play back the
data track of a Mixed-Mode CD with disastrous results–the data is
played as a very loud and grating noise that can damage speakers.
Some CD players detect a data track and either skip or mute it, but
some do not.
What is a
Mixed-Mode
CD?
A Mixed-Mode CD is a
single-session CD that
contains both computer
data and audio track; it
typically is used for
entertainment and
educational programs. Data
is written to the first track
on the CD followed by one
or more audio tracks.
Mixed-Mode CDs are used
with CD-ROM, DVD-
ROM, or CD-RW drives
only and cannot be played
in home or car stereo CD
players.
You can combine both
audio and data on a single
CD using Mixed-Mode or
CD Extra. The difference
between the two methods is
the order in which data and
audio are recorded.
