A home network can be as 
simple or complicated as 
you want. It can consist of 
two computers linked to 
share files and an Internet

What Is a Home Network? 

A network is two or more computers connected to each other. 
Each computer must have an adapter and must be connected to 
the other computer(s) on the network. Networks are created so 
that one computer can use a device—like a color printer—that 
is connected to a different computer.

A home network can also be used to share a single Internet 
connection among several computers. Family members can also 
share files between computers on the network.

How Is a Home Network Different From a 
Business Network?

The biggest difference between a home network and a 
traditional business network is the complexity of the products 
required to make it work.

Compaq's goal is to adapt business network technology to the 
needs of home-networking customers. Both hardware and 
software components that Compaq has developed to create 
home-networking features are easy for consumers to understand 
and use.
