1 . Disconnect t h e spark plug caps.

2 . Clean any d irt from around the spark

plug b ases .

3 . Remove a n d d iscard t h e spark plugs .

4. M ake sure the new sp ark plug gap ( 1 )

is 0 . 8 -0 . 9 mm (0.03 1 -0 . 0 3 5 in )
using a wire-type fee ler gauge . I f ad

j ustment is necessary , bend the sid e

electrode

( 2 )

carefully .

5 .

With t h e plug w asher atta ched , thread

the new spark plugs in by hand to pre

vent cross-threading.

6. Tighten the spark p lugs 1 /2 turn with

a spark plug wench to compress the
washer .

7 . Reinstall the spark plug caps.

CAUTION :

The spark plug m ust be securely tigh t

ened. A n improperly tigh tened plug
can beco m e very h o t and possibly

da mage the engine.

Never use a spark plug with an im

proper heat range.
